A MacNN reader notes that Apple's back-to-school promotion headline, "It's payback time", has been changed as a result of last Tuesday's tragedies and Apple has created new electronic materials for the offer, utilizing a new headline, "Right on the money;" however, Apple's Web-based marketing materials have yet to be updated.

    Good move.

Reminds me of the album cover by artist "Coup" that was printed in Wired magazine this month... I only hope they change their cover like Apple so swiftly changed their campaign due to the increased sensitivity of the public.

The link to the wired photo is here:

sorry to burst your bubble but those promotional materials were sent out prior to last tuesday, the apple specialist i work at received the payback materials last friday (sept 7th).
It is a fitting headline anyway.

    Whatever

It's only words. Not very significant in comparison to the great loss of innocent lives on Tuesday.

Anyways, I don't believe it is fitting at all. If we go out seeking "payback" or revenge, rather than justice, then we risk igniting a third world war. The risk is for WWIII is smaller, I think, if we seek justice and take care not to over-react.

I only hope that W has the wisdom required for a nuanced response to the attack on our homeland. Damn I wish Clinton was still president.

    Clinton?

The same guy who slept through the genocide in Rawanda and bombed aspirin factories to cover the Lewinsky scandal? Whose AG sent a bunch of cowboys from the BATF to cook a bunch of women and children in Waco?

Clinton's foreign policy was a complete disaster. His attempts to broker peace in the middle east were based on the fantasy that the Arabs wanted peace. The fact is that they never gave a damn about the Palestinians, except possibly the Jordanians who at least had the decency to take in refugees. Egypt, Lybia and Syria all turned refugees away because they preferred to keep them around for their propaganda value against Israel. The main thing to his credit is pushing free trade, but that's not of any immediate value.

As Dubya's response has been positively underwhelming, he's the last guy I'd expect to go charging in and throwing cruise missiles around without a clear objective as Clinton did. He has an experienced crew of hawks that he inherited from Poppy, and in a war situation you'll find that hawks are actually better than doves. Hawks will choose an objective and go after it relentlessly rather than acting erratically the way doves will.

Dubya has clearly indicated that he's in it for the long haul and has not limited his options. Don't expect much inspiring rhetoric, he's not an orator like Reagan or Clinton, but he may show his worth building a coalition much as Poppy did.

    I remember...

a story told to children about this boy who woke a sleeping giant. He ran down the bean stalk and chopped it down sending the giant crashing to the ground. If we don't watch our step, the US is gonna come crashing to the ground. I was telling my friends that if we don't watch our backs our own allies will turn their backs on us. Now its already happening France has now changed its tune, which is not too suprising except for the fact they did it so early. Russia who should have a vendetta against afganistan, if you all remember they had their asses kicked there, has also warned the US to watch their step. Meaning they no longer support the US if they go in guns ablazing. Just remember the US may be a giant, but if your remember your biblical stories, so was goliath. All it took was a little boy and a rock to bring him down. These terrorist could be the david and jack that brings down the US. The US has been hurt more than the lives that were lost, the buildings and planes that have been destroyed. Many of our airlines are about to go bankrupt. The stock market opens tomorrow, what will happen there to an already weak market? Fix the problems at home, strengthen defense against things like this happening again, seek those that did this, but do not go to war. Its not worth it. Your just gonna wake the little engine that could.
