On2 Technologies today announced the upcoming beta release of its new Audio for Video Coding system (AVC), a new audio compression technology that "will be fully optimized to set a new standard of quality, clarity and range for audio delivery over the Internet and closed-area networks." The audio codec will be made available to its current customers "shortly." (On2's VP3 Codec for QuickTime is available for limited commercial use.)
