Web report: OS X to be available for free?

A report on the Web claims to confirm that "at least some Mac dealers will be handing out free 10.1 update CDs," following a hint in a Walt Mossberg's Wall Street Journal column: "People who currently use OS X can get the 10.1 upgrade free on CDs that will be available in some stores." The report of "free" availability has been corroborated by another (unconfirmed) tip from a European reader: "I just called up a major online store in Germany that primarily sells Apple stuff, to order the latest iBook. When I asked the salesperson about Puma [OS 10.1] he told me that Apple/Germany had just assured them that the Puma update will be available for free download." Meanwhile, one reader reports receiving a "pretty firm date" of September 26 as the release date of the new OS.

I surely hope so...
I hope they let users download an update, even if it is huge. I know I have the bandwidth to handle it here at school. Besides which, with the current state of air service in the nation right now, shipping channels are bound to be clogged and it might be better for Apple to just buy more bandwidth so people can get the thing in a reasonable amount of time.
