Daniel Lewin, the CTO and co-founder of Akamai Technologies, was confirmed to be on board one of the American Airlines flights that crashed in New York yesterday. Akamai provides streaming technology used in Apple's multimedia software, and has had a close working relationship with the company for years. Lewin will be sorely missed by the Macintosh community.

    One of many lost

This is just one of the tragic deaths that resulted from the chaos yesterday morning. NYC also lost its Fire Chief.

I didn't know Mr. Lewin, but I have a better sense of the man, his contribution and vision, and our loss after viewing the info at these links:

Danny Lewin was a brilliant, enthusiastic, passionate man. Besides his mathematical work that was the basis of Akamai's worldwide network (that makes things like CNN's video possible in Internet flash-crowd conditions), he was the soul of the company. All of us will miss him.

    Do you think he knew?

Do you think he knew that his tech would help show the world his death? That would be kind of a chilling thought.
