Quark to skip UK MacExpo

In a move similar to Adobe's decision not to exhibit during July's Macworld NY Expo, Quark has chosen to not make an appearance at the UK MacExpo. Quark General Manager Glen Turpin tells Macworld UK that the company's Mac commitment remains "firm."

    Sounds good to me...

Keep the cash and resources directed into development. Quark's going to need it.

    Duh!

When you wait as long as Quark does, to release an upgrade to your cornerstone product, income is going to eventually get tight. They have to get Xpress 5.0 to the market sooner and be more agressive about those upgrades. But it's not like they're holding me back on any projects or anything.

I think it was that internet thing that screwed things up over there at Quark. Face it, print technology has stalled.

    Quark / HTML

I still don't understand why Quark seems to feel that adding a slew of HTML conversion tools is such a great thing.

I guess I can see it if people want to create quick "brochureware" for the web, but from a web designer's standpoint it's not up to par.

The web is becoming more dynamic, more interactive, with content generated on the fly via PHP, ASP, Generator, etc. The days of static, table-based HTML documents being acceptable is fading.

As mentioned by Moran above, print technology has definitely stalled. But if Quark made the app more stable, with dynamic commands and functions, and...h***...made the GUI on par with the OS (those white boxes have driven me nuts), then people would upgrade anyway.

How many years has it been anyhow since 4 came out?

Sheeesh. InDesign, like it or not, is making inroads fast.

    Wait for it....

We may as well get it over with. Bring on the "Anti UK" sentiment with the usual "Why would anyone care about that stupid little country anyway?" and other such "wise" phrases.

    England

I like England. It is very nice and has lots of things going for it.

Quark probably just doesn't have the money to exhibit there. I have been to quite a few MacWorld expos in the US and Quark very often does not exhibit. Given the dreadful state of the economy in the U.S. right now, Quark is probably just trying to save a little cash for the next presidential administration and better times.

    England?

Please don't refer to the UK as England - it's WRONG. The other countries in the UK - Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales are fiercely patriotic and you insult many of them by doing this.

    study your economics!

Quark is waiting for the next presidential administration? What a moronic comment! The economy is cyclical in nature. A president has nothing but a minor effect on an economy, mostly effecting the nation's attitudes and emotions. (in my opinion, he has been very positive). If you'll wait for the next president for your company to make any decisions, your company is going to shrivel up and die.

Sheesh. We need smarter posters around here.

    Rush Limbaugh is God!

Heel hath no fury like a Republican scorned. Chill out little dude. The big bad Clinton is gone, along with trillions of dollars from the stock market (you know what -maybe he took it all with him -where is Ken Starr when you need him), and we can all be civil again. That is what being in a better emotional place is all about isn't it?

    Maybe

Perhaps Ken Starr should start a 7 year, 50 million dollar investigation of Bush and see what he comes up with. I'd love to hear about W's past....

England's a dump. Fair and simple. Quark won't be appearing in Somalia either.
