Lind Electronics has introduced a 60-watt Auto/Air Power Adapter specifically designed to power Apple's new iBooks and Titanium G4 laptops. Price

Why is it that over the years, technology has gotten MUCH MUCH cheaper, yet these car adapters are still so expensive? Cell phone Car adapters are around $20, and it's nearly the exact same technilogy. Why is it these things are 4 times the price?

    Not quite the same

In a cell phone adaptor, there is probably a voltage regulator, a few resitors and capacitors, power is probably only a watt or so - if the device is only 50%efficient, this is not much trouble, the excess power can be dumped as heat.
Inside a 60W device, there are circuits to double the voltage and provide it at a couple of other voltages efficiently. If the device was only 50% efficient, it would have to dump another 60W, this means big heatsinks, crappy design etc etc - yep $80 seems alot, but it's not quite the same technology.
