Epson unveils two new printers

Epson has unveiled two new high-end color ink-jet printers, the Stylus Pro 5500 and Stylus Pro 10000. The EPSON Stylus Pro 5500 with the Fiery Spark Designer RIP offers PANTONE color matching, full Macintosh OS 8.5.1 through 9.x compatibility, out-of-box color matching and the all-new Fiery Spark User Interface. Pricing information is not yet available.

    This is a high-end printer. Folks who will use this printer aren't even thinking about Mac OS X at this point. OS 9 is alive and well in the publishing industry.

    This is not news

    These printers have been shipping for some time now. I have seen them personaly at many trade shows. Even know people that own them. In addition, the site has been updated, you can see them here: http://prographics.epson.com/

    These are not not consumer products...the 5500 costs $3500 and the 10000 costs almost $10,000. You can find them at almost all good epson resellers.

    I agree. This isn't news. These printers have been out for awhile now. I've installed the 5500 for several clients. The quality is... simply "breathtaking". Be advised however that the Fiery Spark RIP is NOT out and they have no estimated release date. Originally it was to be an external hardware RIP, yet the latest news indicates that it will be a software RIP. None-the-less the RIP has had a TBD release date for the last 8 months. Don't hold your breath.
