Afternoon tech news: NEC and Sony are working on a new type of power cell that will convert methanol fuel directly into electricity, significantly extending the life of batteries used in notebook computers and other devices; IBM has unveiled a new UNIX OS based server that utilizes the company's fastest processor; MP3.com has replaced top executives and is re-directing its efforts to focus on technology for delivering movies and games over wireless connections.

Now, are they going to sell us cans of methanol for replacement use? I wonder how this would play for frequent air-travellers?? But anyhow, this is technology headed in the right direction. ( more energy, at a comparable weight/cost)
