Hewlett-Packard has introduced three graphics printers with advanced color accuracy and remote proofing capabilities: The HP Designjet 10ps, HP Designjet 20ps and HP Designjet 50ps printers are part of a company-wide commercial printing initiative to improve printing and pre-press processes.
The Designjet 20ps printer offers extra paper handling and server-based processing, while the Designjet 50ps also adds special software licensed from Heidelberg Druckmaschinen AG to provide a complete pre-press proofing solution. Each offers color accuracy of up to 90 percent of Pantone colors and 100 percent of all major offset color standards (SWOP, EuroScale, TOYO, DIC) using a built-in Adobe Postscript 3 Raster Image Processor, six-color printing, 2400 x 1200 dpi resolution, 4 picoliters drop size and dye black ink, and creation of remote PDF and JDF proofing files.
Pricing is $1000, $1,800, and $3,500 respectively for the three printers. They are expected to be available next Spring.

Mac OS X Drivers
It's great that HP is releasing printers that may be able to compete with Epson's high-end devices, but the big questions is...will there be Mac OS X drivers for these printers at the time of their release? I wonder if HP/Compaq will want to support Apple's new OS, since they may see it as supporting the competition. (?)
