Apple CEO Steve Jobs attended the Henrico County, Virginia school convocation on Friday, according to a report in the Richmond Times-Dispatch. Jobs gave a speech to teachers, students and administrators at the Landmark Theatre, where he also delivered the first batch of 23,000 iBooks the school district there has leased from Apple. In his address, Jobs said he came to underscore the district's decision, and that he "wants every other district in this country to copy it." Henrico Schools Superintendent Mark Edwards also indicated in the report that the county is already considering expanding the iBook lease to include elementary students.

    Lease?

I'm confused, I though Henrico purchased the iBooks, not leased them. Can someone clarify please?

Sort of suggests they sold the iBooks. I guess further reading was in order! :)

    lease

It would be foolish to actually buy that many computers. What would they do with them when it comes time to replace them? Smart move for Henrico.
Anyway, in the retail world, a lease is still considered to be a sale. Usually it is more profitable for the seller and offers more options to the buyer.

Lease or purchased, it doesn't matter. After the 3 years, the students can buy the iBooks for $100 (I live in Henrico).
