Autodesk has acquired Cleaner, Cleaner Live and CineStream from Media 100. Some of the digital video editing products will continue to be developed for the Macintosh platform, according to sources. Media 100 will continue developing digital media systems, such as iFinish and Media 100i, as well as continuing support for its ICE family of effects acceleration solutions, and its MediaPress family of real-time MPEG-2 encoding solutions.

    I wish..

Terran would reacquire their products.. autodesk is a VERY Mac UNfriendly company and the Mac versions of these essential utilities will get short shrift.

    whats this ?

"...Some of the digital video editing products will continue to be developed for the Macintosh platform..."

read an article at maccentral earlier, but without this very quote. Sounds very odd to me.Also, it sure would make more sense to point out what products they plan to drop, if this is the case, wouldnt it ? Could someone who knows more plz shed some light on this ?

    bummer!

Great, first MS locks out the QT plugin (and yes, I know Apple has an a**-tive X component ready) and now autodesk buys Cleaner. I had a feeling Cleaner was headed down a road very similar to the MetaCreations product line when Media100 bought it. p***!

    Dead either way?

The product has languished under Media 100. I have a mixed environment (Mac/W2k/Linux) but would like to see this product remain available on the Mac.

Yo! Apple! Put the moves on Autodesk and make sure this product remains available on Mac. All my DV is on Macs, so moving it to a PC for compression would be a pain in the rumpus.

The apps will be headed to Discreet, a professional video software company. Some of their software (Flint / Flame) is used in motion pictures on IRIX stations. They have offered Combustion for both Mac and PC for a while now and these products will strengthen their streaming media abilities.

While I'm sure they won't continue support for all the purchased apps other companies would step in and cut some deals. If not this would eat away at midlevel video programs, nestled between iMovie and Premiere / Final Cut Pro. As a Macintosh convert (4 months and running) the worst and stupidest thing that can happen would be to take video apps away from our machines.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed about Autodesk supporting the Mac for a good long while from now. There are a lot of people in Soho, UK who REALLY want to see their current (and future) stuff running on OS-X, they are fed up with wintel c***. But hey, us mac guys are 'only' 5% of cumputer users out there if you read all the stupid statistics out there. I read that as many people use Mac OS as Windows 95 and the majority of computers out there are still working in/on MS-DOS (i.e huge data entry companies)

Autodesk has indeed been very Mac unfriendly, but I have read that they are planning on releasing an OS X version of AutoCad, so I don't see there being any chance that they will discontinue any acquired popular software for Mac. They won't move one foot forward and the other foot back.

    Re: AutoCad

, do you have any more info on the possibility of AutoCad for OSX? I think AutoCad is the 9th circle of h***, but I still need it. If you have any other info on this, it would be greatly appreciated.

As for Media100 apps moving to Autodesk, I for one don't think they can get any worse than they are now. Cleaner was a fine fine app before Media100 stepped in. There latest update to this absolutely essential piece of software was a piece of junk.

Maybe Discreet will turn this around for us.

I have no idea where you heard that Autodesk was planning on an OS X release, but that is so far from the truth. There have been petitions flying around from architects that it does become available for Mac OS X, but it is pretty much falling on deaf ears.

Anyway, what does Autodesk need with Cleaner, I can't imagine where it would fit into the AutoCAD scheme of things, unless they are really trying to get into animations, I think I'll stick with Electric Image and Maya.

Discreet won't let Cleaner go by the wayside. Too many people rely on it daily. I agree that Media 100 screwed Cleaner up.
