ATI, Intel announce support for FireWire

ATI and Intel today announced their support for FireWire (aka IEEE 1394), noting that its new All-In-Wonder Radeon 8500DV graphics and multimedia card as well as its new DV Wonder PCI card both ship standard with FireWire connectivity.

    Now if ATI would make thier AIW cards Mac Compatable, this would really matter to me.

    ATI sucks

    I can't count the number of times ATI has held back a product launch for apple because they have to write there own drivers. Mainly because they have a stick up there a** and think that no one but themselfs can write crappy drivers for the mac. where as nvidia has open source drivers for there chipsets. This is why I am just so happy with the GeForce2 MX card in the Dig. audio

    hmm

    I'm kind of Surprised that Intel is supporting Firewire. They've been USB 2.0 Gung-ho for more than a year. I guess they (like a bunch of otherwimps) crumpled under pressure from MS..

    I don't think it was M$. I think it was industry momentum. There is no doubt that is where it's going and Intel stopped delutting itself.

    Aren't they just the bes

    The Intel sods have been loathe to pay licencing costs on firewire ports for ages and have promoted USB 2.0 for so long. Finally common sense and Microsoft amongst others have told intel to pull their head out their a** and pay for good technology. USB 2.0 would never work. Tried adding more than 4 or 5 USB devices on a USB 1.1 based Windows machine? Forget it. USB will always be low end. Just like WINTEL...
