A Wired News article discusses "AirSnort," a new underground utility that can grab and analyze data moving across just about every major wireless network, including the 802.11b standard used in Apple's AirPort. The article notes that a new, tougher-security 802.11b is due in mid-2002.

    For OSX Please?

What is the liklihood of this getting ported to OSX? It seems MacUsers are the pioneers of technology, but always miss out on the tools to exploit it!

    No fun ;)

    Re: For OSX Please

This program was made for Unix/Linux. I have it on my LinuxPPC machine....I don't see why it wouldn't work for OSX, just compile and install......anybody know anything different?

ok - they demo'd that you *CAN* do this - why would you *WANT* to do this if there are no defenses and no fixes to tht protocol available yet?

port it to osx amd make it useable with an airport card (currently the airport card does not have the abillity to sniff ). im sure it would possible to make it work... im just wondering howmuch info this program will show... kinda scary concidering that my whole house is networked using airport.

If anyone is reading this using airsnort.. HELLO!

    OS X Porting

This would be a good example of the differences between MacOS X and a more traditional UNIX or UNIX-like environment.

The AirPort driver that Apple supplies does not, to the best of my knowledge, allow access the the 802.11 packets that you'd need to get this to work.

There is something like this in the works - give it a bit of time and you'll get exactly what you're looking for.
