Stairways Software has released Interarchy 5.0, a new version of its popular file transfer tool that now features support for both Classic and Mac OS X. Interachy 5.0 features downloads via both FTP and HTTP, as well as a suite of tools designed to help the Mac Internet user. New in version 5.0 is FTP Disk, a feature that allows users to access files on frequently-used servers with any application in the same way users would access files on the hard drive. FTP Disk also provides instant access to files over a slow connection or while offline. A free, fully functional version of Interarchy 5.0 will be available until October 1, 2001; single-user licenses are $45.

    Pay again??!

I *love* Interarchy. I use it everyday. My only complaint is that they just updated to version 4.0 in January, and now there's a new version 5.0 that is a paid upgrade.

    And...

If you get the new version, want to go back to 4 that you paid for, but don't have the old version, Stairways won't give you the one you paid for. You HAVE to buy the new one. Sounds a little like Microsoft ,doesn't it?

    Use Transmit instead

They are like Microsoft. I'm not buying their software. You can get all of its functionality for free using other tools such as Transmit or Fetch for FTP, or for example even older versions of their software such as OTSessionWatcher: http://hyperarchive.lcs.mit.edu/cgi-bin/NewSearch?key=otsessionwatcher

    use rbrowser instead

RBrowser is great. It may not have the ftp disk, or http:// downloads, but the latest version is much faster than any of the older versions, and best of all it is FREE. No exceptions, etc... totally free. You have to have Mac OS X to use it though.

    sigh ... stupid stairways

Okay, I paid for 2.x or 3.x way back when. Then I paid an upgrade fee for 4.1. I felt ripped off, but at least I was getting an OS X version.

It seems that all Peter cares about is implementing inane features like wands and making this bloatware by combining all his programs into one.

There's still no scp or sftp support, and bookmark editing is Netscape 3-era -- there's no click to type.

Furthmore, he removed a feature: no more OTSessionWatcher.

    Sigh.

    no, he didn't

OTSessionWatcher is still there. Be sure and install the appropriate extensions from the Extras folder, then Show Traffic in the window menu.
