Code Red affecting Now Up-to-Date users
updated 03:20 pm EDT, Fri August 17, 2001
Power On Software has acknowledged that some users are experiencing crashes with the Now Up-to-Date Public Event Server due to attacks from the Code Red worm. MacNN reader Tom N. notes that his Now Up-to-Date server crashed every 10 minutes; after reporting the issue to Power On, the company recommended that he change the port for broadcasting Web information from port 80 to another port. Power On Software is working on re-developing the Web publishing services so that future attacks can be avoided.

oops!
FROM MacInTouch.com, today:
RCN Cable and Comcast Cable have joined other ISPs in cutting off residential web server access on port 80, according to Jeff Porten (see our Code Red report):
"That makes four independent ISPs, including AT&T and Verizon. I'm seriously considering a class action lawsuit against Microsoft since none of us are using MS products, but are being affected by their problems. Personally, this is going to cost me a few hundred dollars a year in added Internet costs, and I don't even want to think about lost business. (I'm a web admin -- good luck getting contracts when your OWN site is down.)"
