MacPlay has announced that Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn, the highly anticipated fantasy role-playing game sequel from Bioware, has reached golden master and will begin shipping for Classic and Mac OS X in early September. In Baldur's Gate II, the Forgotten Realms adventure ensues along the southern portion of the Sword Coast in the merchant kingdom of Amn. The region includes diverse environments such as the Forests of Thethyr, the Cloudpeak Mountains, the Drow cities of the Underdark, and more.

    Slower than Windows

    I tried playing BG II at Macworld on one of the new QuickSilvers and it was frightfully slow. I hope they've done some code optimization since then.

    I believe it also unofficially supports 1024x768 settings. Hopefully it will be fast enough even though it's pushing higher res textures around. Some ops are opengl accelerated, so that should help.

    I guess I'm lucky. I never had problems with the first (nothing a cmd-tab out to finder and back couldn't fix, at least), and had a wonderful time playing it through. Gameplay was fine; not dazzlingly fast; on my B&W G3 400.

    Crossing my fingers on the next one being as good. Anyone know how much HD space a full install will take?
