Discreet has announced combustion 2, a new version of its paint, animation, and 3D compositing software that supports new multi-format project capabilities, including video, HDTV, and 64-bit color. New tool sets in combustion 2 include a fully-editable, interactive schematic view, a compositing flowchart designed to make complex visual effects creation faster and simpler, a fully-integrated 2D particle system, a text and motion graphics module, and garbage masking technology compatible with Discreet's online visual effects systems. combustion 2, a Carbonized application for Classic and Mac OS X, is expected to begin shipping at the end of 2001 for $3,495; upgrades are $795.
