Apple expects to spend about $85 million this year to open 25 new retail stores, according to its quarterly report filed Monday with the SEC. As of June 30, the company has entered into a number of leases—ranging in length from five to twelve years—with a total commitment of $203 million. The report also said that the retail operation is expected to break even in the first quarter of fiscal 2002 and generate a slight profit for the full fiscal year.
