SkyTower Telecommunications has successfully flown Helios, the world's first unmanned plane intended as a new, cheaper way to get broadband, wireless Internet access to businesses. The solar-powered aircraft flies at the edge of Earth's atmosphere—100,000 feet high—and is controlled by a Macintosh, which would guide it back to Earth when necessary. Each Helios aircraft is anticipated to cost $10 million, while convential communications satellites run in the neighborhood of $200 million each.
