The paragraph needs to be changed to read:

"MacNN reader Ryan Morse has posted a series of exceptionally dark and blurry pictures..."

    Sorry

The blurry pic of the guards is an accident, I almost did not even upload it. I didn't think it world bother people that much. As for the darkness in the mall, there was not much I could do. The Mall lights did not turn on until about 8:45 so the lighting conditions were not prime. I had my flash on in but it can only do so much in such a large area. Sorry!

    JPEG vs. GIF

To reader number two (who didn't even bother to put up a web page for his three pictures): Always remember: JPEGs for photos, GIF for graphics. (or nothing at all if you are one of those PNG-lovers ;)

    I was there....

I got there about two and a half hours early. I was 150th in line.

The mall was very dark, all the lights were mostly off.

    Some things:
-Apple store personnel handed out Evian water to waiting people in line.

-Many people had brought iBook or G4 Powerbooks with them and were
sitting on the floor using their machines while waiting.

-I was six stores away from the entrance. After me, the line stretched
to the end of the aisle, down the next aisle to the left, and then beyond
    that to the next aisle.

-I then asked a store employee who was counting how many people were
waiting in line and she said over 500. And people were still coming.

-Mall security were stymied - they didn't know what to think.

-The young couple in front of me bought a 22" cinema display. Yeow!

-It really had the feel of a strange party, there was cheering, clapping, etc.

-They were handing out t-shirts in clear and white plastic tubes to people.

-They were handing out Apple notebooks (plastic covers, Apple logo, acid
free paper inside). Very nice for a diary or notes or whatever.

-I ended up getting an optical mouse for the wife's machine and spent a lot of time trying to gauge the performance of 10.0.4 on one of the G4/867s. Very nice. I SSH'ed into my own G4 at home, checked my mail and continued on.

-There were massive lines for the cash registers too.

-The credit card swiper machines appeared to be running Aqua or reasonable facsimile.

-The cash registers were iMacs running some point of sale software on standard MacOS.

-They had more Mac music software than I've ever seen in one place before - amazing. They had a huge amount of software in general.

-One guy behind me found a piece of software he'd been looking for that had been rumored to exist but he'd never see and the american arm of the japanese manufacturer was uncertain it even existed. He found it (Mac version of Roland/Edirol virtual sound canvas).

-When I left shortly after 11 a.m., the lines were still just as long as they were when I first showed up. Amazing.
