Walter S. Mossberg recommends the new iBook over the Titanium PowerBook G4, saying that the "iBook is the best home or college laptop I've ever seen, and that includes all of the Windows machines."

    Full line-up should be!

Apple's portables are the best in the industry again. It's not just the outer case either, speedy, powerful guts make these machines so good. Both the iBook and TiBook are first generation still, meaning they can only get better in the near future. I would like to see Apple's desktop(s) machine(s) become this irresistable again. I actually think Apple needs a mid-range desktop like the Cube again, though this time a screen should be standard making this a bigger lure to for those not needing to power and expense of a tower. Maybe the new iMac will fill this gap. Four models with the high-end coming in a more expensive case, more powerfu guts and the space saving footprint of the Cube.

    And the desktop's homeru

I recently bought an iBook (2 USB), but I know I will also need a new desktop computer sooner than later. I was hoping for a desktop homerun at MacWorld Expo... but it never happened.

Come on Apple : I know (and you know) you can do it ! Get us truly new iMacs and PowerMacs ! Get us desktops as competitive as your laptops are with PCs, performance-wise and price-wise !

I want as much s** on my desk as I have on my laps now ! (Well, errr... you understand what I was trying to say !)

    Airport

If you can and havn't yet, the Airport wireless networking and Internet is the best thing to come along in a long time. Surf the Internet on the couch, great. Share files with the other mac while outside, done. No wires, no mess. Seemless. I can't say enough about wireless networks and Internet.

    Price matters!

Hopefully Apple (and other computer makers as well) realize that this is due primarily to price (and of course, good design). As much as I'd like a G4 book, the fact is I can't justify spending that much cash on one. A $1300 iBook is another story, tho!

    Not to be too critical...

... but this was up on Apple's hotnews page yesterday.

It's definitely a good analysis of the situation, however. Apple's line of portables are all definitely worth the money.

    Perhaps soon a change

Well, that deal that Apple has for the free CD-RW drive is up in a few weeks so I am guessing we will see something new. It is pretty hard to justify getting a Ti when the i is so damn cheap. Sure the screen is bigger and the CPU is a G4 but the iBook's price point is so competitive it can't be argued with. In fact, a Linux buddy of mine is planning on getting an iBook in the next few weeks. He wanted to install Linux on it but then figured that since he can get X-Windows working in OS X he might just stick with OS X.

Pretty sweet that are stuff is getting some high respect from some of the most critical computer users out there, eh?

    Re: AirPort

I have to agree with the fellow who mentioned AirPort. Apple has an awesome portable line-up whose strength, today, is solidified by AirPort.

I only hope that Apple remembers that this isn't a good time to rest... I'm still waiting on iBook 2002 and AirPort 2. =)

    update the TiBook!

Apple RRREEAALLY needs to update the TiBook. I won't buy one until they 1) fix the battery issue (accidental release) 2) fix the sporatic Airport connection issue 3) Put Superdrive in and 4) Faster, I mean 733 at least!
