Netopia will next week announce availability of Timbuktu Pro for Mac OS X, MacNN has learned. The tool allows users to control Macs or Windows systems across a network, as transfer files and folders; send instant messages or interactive text chat; and even talk via voice intercom. A preview release of the software is currently available.

    Re: vnc

The only problem is that vnc is painfully slow. TB2 (and pcAnywhere for that matter) is much more efficient.

    X-windows

When can we expect X-terminal options like in UNIIX and Linux... Even windows XP and Windows terminal server allows graphical remote logins... Imagine doing photoshop from a series of iMacs while photoshop is acually running at a dual 800 system..

I'm using beta's since several months now, and I'm very pleased with it. I'll upgrade. I also used the free VNC clients, but VNC is indeed way slower then TB. To really do serious work on a remote machine, VNC is too slow, even over ethernet. I use TB to program on a remote server and only miss the right mouse and scroll wheel support which is present in certain VNC clients. The screen lag is barely noticable. I would give TB a 4 1/2 mice as score :-)
