BSD Info site Greasydaemon.com has posted a first look at OS X, concluding: "MacOS X boils down to a great tool that allows me to do work more efficient and I can do it with a smile. It is something you have to experience for yourself. I strongly recommend taking it for a test spin and deciding for yourself. "

    not impressive

The three sentences quoted don't shed a favorable light on the review, as they are not very well written at all.

    Spell checking...

...built into OS X is great. Clearly, grammar checking is also needed for folks putting together poorly written reviews like this one.

    Relax Indeed

Ok, so there were a few gramatical errors in the article. It was still a relatively well thought out and extremely X-favorable article coming from a Unix-head who seems to know what he's talking about. Considering how picky the Unix community can be, I think that's pretty cool.

Two things I was a bit surprised he didn't mention were that X comes with Apache pre-installed as default web-sharing (VERY cool bonus for the not-so-technically-inclined), and although he mentioned Xfree86, he didn't mention that it runs on X (it can even run headless, in fact).

    Don't Worry About Gramma

Are you popped?? Grammar and spelling errors have become a hallmark of the Internet subculture. With so many kids spending so much time online, wouldn't it be nice if they learned to communicate like humans instead of poorly trained monkeys? Obviously you are uneducated yourself and don't put a very high value on these types of things, but try to imagine the country run by an individual who can't communicate properly...

    come on

I wrote the first post above, and then I went and read the whole review. It's really not all that bad grammatically. It just needs a good edit.

    I will try harder...

It took me a bit of time to write that article and I guess I did not watch the spelling and grammar as much as I should have. I actually and rewrote many sections over and over and then edited the content. Then I had a friend read it over and he gave me a few more corrections.

Then I just decided to let it loose. I personally cannot stand it when people cannot express themselve effectively in their writing. Next time I will try to watch it more closely. I could write it up in AppleWorks instead of VI. I prefer to write just about everything in VI, which goes with my preference for Unix.

I wish BBEdit had a command-line mode like VI. I figure if they can merge MacOS with Unix, they can merge BBEdit and VI. Or am I just talking silly?
