Apple planning retail store

updated 12:25 pm EST, Fri November 17, 2000

Apple is planning its first retail presence in downtown Palo Alto with a 6,500-square-foot retail space being built as a prototype for future Apple stores--as many as three in California--according to the San Jose Mercury News. The shop, which will be located at University and Kipling avenues, was shown to members of Palo Alto's architectural review board who said the building "won't come with any Apple signage, just two white Apple logos illuminated on glass doors." Reuters is reporting the stores could open as early as April. [updated]

    stupid

So, Apple can't ship products on time... and now they're going to open a retail chain? in an area that already enjoys great Apple retail sales... hmph... stupid IMO, why not put a store out in Kansas or something where Apple needs more exposure.

    Test Markets

Most companies usually test an idea first... If the first retail store works out, then they'll be popping up all over the place, just like those d*mn Gateway Country places.

    ok, but...

Ok, but Apple has some really greta programs out there that need some major strengthening, like the CompUSA store within a store, which could be better, the Circuit City deal still needs a lot more support, and then there is the fact that most Wolf Camera stores don't actually have an iMac in them. How about strengthening these retail deals, concentrate on the web sales, and then, maybe then, when your retail resellers are doing really good, focus on the regional retailers, local resellers, and support teams.... Apple doesn't need a store. They need to focus on their core competencies: Education and improving the product.
