    Carbonized?

Adobe better get it together and stop releasing non-carbonized or non-cocoa'd apps. It's a friggin slap in the face with OS X being out for so long already.

    maybe when OS X

gets released?? What is currently shpping is an alpha.. specified features that were supposed to be in it aren't. Therefore, it's really nothing more than an alpha.

And getting a real beta is only 1/2 the battle.. next developers need proper and COMPLETE documentation. Such does NOT exist. Not even close. Carbon is still a wildly gyrating target.

You see, Cupertino has actually completed the transition to the ms way. Developers are under very strict "orders" from Cupertino to shut up.. or else they are history in the Mac market as far as Cupertino is concerned.

Now we all know that the target is September to get the first REAl beta of X out.. 10.1. It'll be a beta because it's the first time they'll be releasing what should be a feature complete release. Then they need to get all the APIs documented. Then they need to settle carbon down. THEN we can really anticipate X apps. THEN we can start putting the old squeeze on the developers, like adobe.

Wanna change this? Keep the pressure on the fruit to get X at least featiure complete, release decent API documentation and settle carbon down. First. Then we can start needling developers.

    Bogus!

One of these days, the yutzes here will actually check something before writing a story. I tried early this morning, in mid-day and now towards the end of the day. the installer file on adobe's site is corrupt.. the file transfers OK, but every file I downloaded shows a end-of-file error, so they won't run.

Now, I happened to try my old version (2.1). It tells me that I have to contact them for a "voucher verification" and points me to a web page. On adobe site. That page lists an 800- number. I call that, wade thro9ugh a whole slew of c***, finally get a human being. Oh, this isn't the right number (why did your software TELL me to call this number then?), you have to call THIS number. Tried the new one.. it's to barnes & noble! I speak to them.. they don't want to know from me because I was talking about mis-behaving adobe software.. so you have to call adobe.. well they say to call barnes.. who says to call adobe, who says to call.. you get the picture.

Meanwhile NONE of the ebooks I already have will work or operate. And if they ever release an updater that is a real complete Mac application, then I'll have to cotact all the ebook vendors to get new liceses because guess what? A new version of adobe's software REQUIRES that I secure new "rights."

    How screwed up is this?

    adobe and osx

ebook reader sounds to me like acrobat reader with some (ultra-secure lol ;-) encryption. yet acrobat reader for osx is out and works just fine.

so how difficult can it be to release a text reading app when maxon have got cinema 4d out for OSx, and even corel have bryce 5 and now painter 7? surely radiosity rendering and natural media painting is more involved than sticking a book online?

blaming apple's 'incomplete documentation' and pretending there's some enforced conspiracy of silence is idiotic - bit too much X-files I reckon. i'd be more inclined to believe adobe is simply chasing the larger market but doesn't want to risk alienating Mac users; so in the meantime they leak whatever excuse it takes to get them off the hook.
