Apple is apparently discontinuing the KidSafe component of iTools. A message posted to the iTools Web site says "We regret that we are discontinuing the KidSafe service due to low customer usage. Please follow the instructions below to quickly and easily remove KidSafe from your computer system. It will only take a few minutes."

    I don't know who posts..

Looks like some of the culprits registered - which is why there shouldn't be anonymous posts!

Anyway, Apple seems to be doing a shakeup with all its web services. First sofware download then TIL and now this.

    I wonder whats next?

    iReview and KidSafe weren

Both iReview and KidSafe were bizarre from the start up :

1- They meant that Apple suddenly became a content provider instead of a tool provider. Apple makes great tools (iTunes, iDVD, DVD Studio Pro, iMovie, Final Cut Pro, AppleWorks, PowerSchool, iDisk, email, Homepage) but has no qualifications as far as content-providing goes (iReview, KidSafe, EdView).

2- They meant that Apple suddenly played the role of a censor, choosing what is good and what is bad for the Mac community. Telling the users what to think is Microsoft's habit, not Apple's. "Think different : use iReview" Not really !

3- They meant that Apple had to choose to be either ethnocentric (a heavy US bias, rendering the service uninteresting elsewhere in the world, but not too resource intensive for Apple) or multi-cultural (interesting everywhere but very costly to maintain).

All in all, Apple should forget about providing content : its not the company's forte and it is bound to be bad for the company's image (if you forget someone, you hurt someone). I prefer to deal with a company that lets me do the things I want instead of dealing with a company that tells me what to do (do what you want... with MSN, Corbis, Passport, etc) !

    Bring on iPhoto ! ;-)

Alright, so I guess registration didn't work. Let's post everyone's email addresses after comments so we can flame them. They're flaming the comments board. Fair is fair.

    Kid Safe

I tried it with my Kids. The way it integrated with Multiple users was cool. Mainly my kids use the internet to look up cheat codes for games (pokemon) and research for homework. Harmless enough I figure and I trust them so I don't need to sit there and watch them. But when they accidently go to someplace like whitehouse.com, then I have a problem.

Kidsafe didn't seem to let them go anywhere. It sucked. So I disabled it. This is why I like the idea of a .x** TLD. It would really help in this case.
