MacNN reader Mathias J. notes that the variable bit rate (VBR) features added in Sorenson Video 3 Professional Edition will not work in Media 100's Cleaner 5 until a 5.1 update for Cleaner has been released, which is scheduled for mid-to-late August.

Actually there's a VERY nasty bug in Sorenson2 that prevents the use of both processors in encoding QT. Enabling dual processor support in Sor2 results in nasty corruption of video files.
I spoke with several Sorenson people at MacWorld NY and they're aware of the problem but were NOT able to tell me when this bug will be fixed.
This is a MAJOR letdown - I was hoping to get some use out of my dual 533 in encoding Sorenson 2 OR 3 QuickTime streams.

Nobody said SV3 and Cleaner5 does not work. It says the "VBR" function does not work. And the dual processor support does not work either.
I can confirm that SV3 sort of works with Cleaner5, I'm using it right now. The main problem I'm having is that the only Video Data Rate option available is Basic.
Suppress Spikes, Flat and VBR are greyed out.
I can live with out VBR for a month as most of the work I do is streaming, however the problem with using S3 Basic vs S2's is that you can't set accurate rates. Its datarate spikes all over the place and at this stage I haven't found a way of keeping it constant enough to stream smootly especially at lower bit rates.
Pity, 'cause I really want to start using this codec as soon as possible (I'm so over the Windows Media 8/Real 8.5 being superior bullsh*t - SV3 totally spanks those two for bitrate/quality)
No I'm not stupid - the story has been edited now wto reflect the accurate truth which I originally responded with. Originally the story said "Sorenson 3 and Cleaner do not work together".
As is often the case with Web "news" sites they don't show a change log or do the responsible thing and attribute an update, so in the end the user who writes in with the truth looks like an a** :)

SV3 and Cleaner 5 work!
Please get your facts straight - Sorenson Video 3 Pro works fine with Cleaner 5 and all other Quicktime applications.
The real issue is that Cleaner 5 does not yet support SV3's new VBR (variable bit rate) options, which allow for far better efficiency at a given overal bitrate (and much longer encoding times, though that is to be expected).
I highly doubt Media100 and Sorenson told you that their latest products don't work together...
