updated 01:05 pm EDT, Wed July 18, 2001
CMS Peripherals has introduced Mac support for its new pocket-sized USB ABS and new credit-card-size Fire & Forget Type II PC-Card hard disk drives (HDDs). The USB ABS drives include "automatic launcher" technology, which initiates a complete or incremental backup of the startup drive HDD, storing "all data in native file format without requiring the user to input a single software command." Fire & Forget is available in 2GB ($350) and 5GB ($500) capacities, while USB ABS is available in 6GB, 10GB, 20GB, and 30GB capacities, starting at $330. OS X support is due "soon" and USB 2.0 and FireWire models are under development.
