Intuit has announced the introduction of Quicken 2002 for Mac OS X. The Carbonized app will be available later this summer, and sport new on-line banking functionality, as well as allowing users to download their most recent transactions from participating brokerages directly from the Web into Quicken via OFX technology.

A taste of things to come

Today will be a big day for developers debuting OSX enabled Apps. Already, before the keynote, we've seen Toast, Virtual PC, and now Quicken. While much of the focus today will be on the new hardware, it is reassuring to see OSX verisons of vital programs.

    Hey Intuit!

If you want to show a REAL commitment to Mac OS X, release QuickBooks for it. Until then you'll get nothing but hot air from me. Quicken 2002... blaH!

C'mon, give 'em a break. It would be nice to know if the ported software you've been working on will actually FUNCTION for end-users.
I see this as a necessary step in the progress toward an OS X version of QuickBooks.

    Pitiful Customer Service!

Hopefully their customer service improves. Whether it is Quicken or MacInTax (er, TurboTax for Macintosh) their support has diminished so much the last few years that I have already told them I am going to begin looking at alternatives since they do not seem to care about the customer, especially the Macintosh customer. I have been using Quicken since version 3, and MacInTax since 1993. However, the last couple years have been horrendous and they no longer seem to care about service to customers. Personally, I am going to be spending my time on various forums to discover what alternatives to these two applications are worthy of my consideration for replacement of these poorly supported items.

    turncoats

Macin/Turbo tax started as an Apple ][ program. Intuit took over and promptly moved the focus to the PC. They dumped Apple Quickbooks users years ago. They have promised for years that we would be able to do online banking (like Intuit's PC customers do), but the last time I looked there were about 10 banks in the world that supported Mac/Quicken. Now they claim we will be able to manage our investments with their pitiful software?

    I doubt it!

    Turncoats?

I live in Kansas City...not exactly a hotbed of technology...and my bank doesn't even blink when I connect using my Mac/Quicken. I think you may be a bit misinformed about the number of supported banks.

Quicken is a good product...not a great one...and their support is marginal...but they DO support a Mac version. Give 'em a break.
