Toast 5 Titanium for OS X Preview #1 released

Roxio has released Toast 5 Titanium for OSX, Preview #1, the first application for the new operating system to allow burning of data to CDs and DVDs. The preview release, which is only for owners of Toast 5 Titanium, has limited functionality and some technical issues may be present. The preview release expires on October 1, 2001.

Only Firewire and ATAPI drives supported. I sure hope they get SCSI support REAL soon....

Toast 5PR1

Needed to enable root access in order to install. Not sure why, but have since burnt a Mac/ISO Hybrid CD - even though Toast says it can't? It burns and mounts, so who knows. I'm just glad to have it running.

Funny - you can burn VCDs, but not play them in OSX

Great !

Work great, I've burned 5 Cds so far, no problem using a Firewire CDR burner.

You need root rights to install it, just type root as login and your usual password.

Not quite yet...

The limitations on this preview (including blocking iTunes due to incompatibilities) are a little too high. Toast crashed midway through a test burn, which didn't engender much confidence. Nevertheless, I expect the subsequent releases to be much improved.

I installed as an administrator. In fact the installer stated that it has to be installed by an administrator. Nary a mention of root.

Buggy as you would expect. But I did burn a data CD.

Score one for Roxio. Come on Apple the train is leaving the station.

Upgrade pricing

Didn't this just come out a few months ago, and they're going to make registered users pay for an upgrade? Maybe I missed something, but I can't remember having to pay for an incremental upgrade.

so has the sad romance with the recording industry kicked in yet? any hints of music cd burning limits? first mp3, now cdrs. i never thought roxio would sell out so quickly. sigh.

Toast 5 OSX Rocks!

I have a USB Zip650 CD-RW and Toast OSX works great. It's burning a VCD in the background while I surf the web, check email, etc. This preview version is rock solid for me, I've burned several data, mp3, and VCDs without a problem.

Also, Roxio will not be charging Toast 5 owners for the upgrade to the OSX version. It will be free to registered owners. Which is more than I can say for Connectix.

And to those who bellyache about the EMI thing, simply don't buy Toast 6, which is probably when the secure music features will kick in. Stick with Toast 5.

Roxio Breaks Its Promise�hints it will charge Toast 5 owners for OS X Version

As I went to download the new Preview 1 of Toast 5 for OS X that expires October 1st, I read they are going to give us a "special price" for the OS X release. This would be in direct contrast to the promise of an implied FREE download of the OS X release version printed on the side of the Toast 5 Titanium box. I don't have that box where I am now. But I plan on sending you the exact copy when I get to it. The download page for the OS X preview addition says:

"...Those who signup to download this preview version will be notified of technical updates which may be developed, and will be eligible for special upgrade pricing when the final version of the software is released..."

The only reason I bought the Toast 5 this Spring was because of that implied promise of a FREE OS X release upgrade printed in a large paragraph on the side of the box.

Looks like a class action lawsuit waiting to happen if they don't give the OS X release to us for free. I am livid about this.

QPS 8X4X32 no go

Doesn't see my Que Firewire either. It's the same one that Apple says SHOULD be recongnized by iTunes 1.1.1, but doesn't work. I'm bummed, as I vowed as soon as I could burn CD's on X, I would start using it full time. Guess the wait continues...

UFS

Arg! It won't install onto a UFS volume.... I sure hope it will support UFS once released, the idea of having to reformat my HD in HFS+ just so I can install an application frightens me..

CDRW dirves not seen

I think Mac OS X sometimes "loses" sigh of USBand Firewire devices like CDRW drives. Everyone having problems, try rebooting and see if Toast (or iTunes for that matter) can then "see" the drive.

Roxio won't charge 4 OSX

I spoke with the product manager at the show and he assured me Toast 5.1 for Mac OS X will be available at no charge to 5.0 users.
