Bare Bones Software, creators of the popular BBEdit text editing tool, has debuted its latest utility Super Get Info. The Mac OS X add-on allows users to perform the following functions through the "Show Info" command in Apple's next-gen OS: View and edit the Mac OS type and creator codes for a given file; View and edit the Unix owner, group, and permission settings for files and folders; Modify a file's creation and modification dates; and others. The commercial utility is priced at $20, and a 14-day trial is available for download.

    Way Too Expensive

$20? Are you kidding me? How in the world can they justify that price for such a simple utility? Give me a break! They have no marketing or distribution costs, support is done via e-mail, and the utility could be written by any competent programmer in a weekend. This program should be priced between $5-$10 or simply given away as freeware.

    WTF?

Making it a freebie would get BB lots of free publicity.

    Not well done...

It's inconvenient to use: you have to select the files, switch to the App and then hit Command-I; or drag files to a desktop alias. You can't drag files to the Dock icon. The application only shows the read/write/execute bits--not sticky bits or BSD flags--which limits its usefulness. I wonder how it handles logical links and aliases. For $20, I would expect an application (or Dockling!) that does much more.

    Also available...

From the makers of Super Get Info...

    Super Resize-Windows.

BBEdit fixes another Mac-OS-X-soon-to-be-fixed-anyway-bug with this easy to resize window. Resize in a flash, with no waiting. Only $20.

    And coming soon...

    Super Rage Pro drivers

If you've got a G3 Powerbook, for only $20 more dollars, you can experience the thrill of hardware video accelleration, just like promised by Apple in the next major revision.

    Gideon Softwork's GetInf

How does this differ from Gideon's GetInfo?

(Which is also too expensive at $10.)

    RBrowser another option..

RBrowser does most of this same stuff for free.... and that's just as a side benefit of the main focus of the program.

    this

'How does this differ from Gideon's GetInfo? '

It's made by a co. with a track record of great software, not a newcomer whos other main products are a crappy, confusing ftp client and a soon to be obsolete dock replacement
