Yahoo! has announced that it will be adding video to its instant messenging software, Yahoo! Messenger. The video will be streamed at 1 frame per second, which is far less than live streaming video but will allow users to add more emotion to instant messenging. Beginning next month, Logitech webcams will include Yahoo's instant messenging software.

    Why is this even here?

Yahoo Messenger for Mac is still at 1.0.1 (a minor bug fix for the only version ever to ship) and it contains none of the features that the Windows version contains, beyond simple text chat. And they wonder why they're a distant #3?

This announcement about video isn't a Macintosh-related announcement at all... it's Windows-only, and always will be. I'll keep using Mac AIM, which has almost complete feature-parity with the Windows version, and has often gotten new features *before* the Windows version.

    i agree

its not mac related... the mac version of yahoo messenger just does a few things... let you know when friends are online, if you have mail, and lets you send msg back and forth with friends. no more no less.

icq is junk, msn you need a hotmail address, and aim has ads and lacks a few windows things... my choice is and always wll be aim its just more macish (even under X...)

    Another irrelevant item

    MacNN is really becoming c***.

Always putting up 'updates' all over the place during the day, and now irrelevant news items.

I think I'll stop bothering to load this page, just like AppleInsider.

    file sending w/Ymsgng

I found out you can also send files via yahoo messenger for the macintosh, i've sent at least 3 files back and forth and it creates a link where the files, iguess, are uploaded.

    - Palms in Sears stores (yesterday) (who cares!??!)
    - MS & Co. spending $1B promoting XP (ditto)
    - misc Napster news (as if it mattered anymore!)

palms in sears -- all the apple about how apple wants palm makes it news

ms with xp -- well its the other big os... letting us know what to expect

napster -- it is tech news and somepeople care... when/who decides when news/companies no longer matter... we could have said the same thing about apple 4 years ago....

so in two days three "usless" news items... that much better than local news.

    I don't care

This is supposed to be a Mac news site. The palm thing could be news worthing, if it really affected the mac. XP, if I cared I would be on a PC site. Napster/Tech news, if I want this info I would go to a standard tech news site.

Here, I only want Mac News. If they can't give it to me, shutdown or change the name.

This is supposed to be a Mac news site; if I wanted news about palm or MS I'd read CNet or something....
