Panasonic has begun shipping to OEM customers its DVDBurner, a combination DVD-RAM/R drive that reads from and writes to both DVD-RAM (rewritable) and DVD-R (write-once) discs. The mutifunction drive provides all of the functionality of the DVD Forum specifications for DVD-RAM and DVD-R General, including full compatibility with DVD video players, recorders, and DVD-ROM drives. The drive will be available to retail customers in October for under $600 (for the internal ATAPI version).

    Re: price

It is cheaper than the Superdrive, but the Superdrive also burns CD-R and CD-RW (but not DVD-RAM). It also important to note that it says it will be available in October; it is possible that the Superdrive will get cheaper over the next 4 months too.
