TEAC has introduced a new portable, battery-operated CD-RW drive that includes either a USB or a PCMCIA interface. The 4x4x6 USB drive weighs just over one pound and is approximately the same size as a portable audio CD player. The drive features 110ms average access time and 2MB data buffer as well as an integrated rechargeable battery pack that can power both the drive and recharge itself while plugged into the AC Adapter. The USB version, available for $330, comes with Roxio's Toast for burning CDs.

Hmm, its a little bit of a high price, whe you consider you can buy a 8x8x32 for about $80.00 street price from Fry's or any mom and pop computer store.

    hmmmm

really? $80 for a battery powered micro sized CDRW? For my powerbook and that price, I think I would buy an internal VST CDRW.

    I agree

That is very expensive for a USB device. I want the internal VST CDRW for my powerbook also. Just the price is keeping me away...

    Portable CDRW

Well, when you're on the road and unless you're shooting digital movies, a slow USB CDRW should do just fine. I mean, how many files and how big are they going to be?

Me? I need to burn/backup digital pictures from my digital camera so I can erase the Compact Flash cards and shoot some more knowing that the files are safe, on CDR and on my TiPB laptop's hard drive.

Why! I can even give the toasted CDR to relatives I'm visiting or mail it to them while on vacation!

Still, since I've FireWire I'll opt for a FW CDRW for around $200. USB extra will be a nice touch. I'm looking at the LaCie Pocket CDRW. Looks cool!
