Sony has introduced a new 16-inch Multiscan LCD, the SDM-M61. The flat-panel display features a high-resolution, active-matrix TFT panel that provides digital and analog inputs as well as an image size comparable to a 17-inch CRT. Additionally, the LCD features a Zero Footprint Design that allows it to be mounted either directly on the wall or by using an arm-mounting device. Sporting a maximum resolution of 1280 x 1024, the SDM-M61 also includes built-in stereo speakers, precision color controls, a 70-degree tilt capability, a 160-degree horizontal viewing angle, and is Kensington lock-compatible. The Sony 16-inch Multiscan LCD will be available in July for $850.

    Sounds nice.

This sounds nice. Is it somehow better than the apple monitor?
How much is a Kensington lock that you can use to hang it on the wall? That would be nice and artsy, and practical, too!

    Tiny tiny tiny

I guess you need a good magnifier glass to work with that monitor. SXGA on 16" sounds like an ergonomic nightmare to me...

    can you say...

iBook? which has even higher pixel density.

And go see a good 17" monitor (16" viewable) at that res. and you will see how good it is.

    no magnifier for OS X

You won't need a magnifying glass if you are using OS X...the graphics scale because that's the way quartz works.

    cheers!

    16"

Some of the IBM A Series notebooks run at UXGA = 1600x1200 on a 15" TFT. But the best I've seen is the VAIO PCG-GT1 and GT3 @ 1024x768 XGA on a 6.4" screen!

    how about as 2nd screen?

Since you can only have one Apple display (or pay an extra 150 for an adapter) would be great as a second screen for mac users- plus at $850 its still a $150 savings with which I could add trick out my mac with another 768 MBs of ram- thats no small potatoes.
