Napster has signed a worldwide licensing agreement with The UK's Association of Independent Music (AIM) and the Independent Music Companies Association (IMPALA) that provides the music swapping service with hundreds of thousands of tracks to be available on its membership-based service, which is set to launch this summer. The deal covers tracks from artists including Moby, Muse, Ash, Paul Oakenfold, Tom Jones, Badly Drawn Boy, Underworld, Stereophonics, Mogwai, and hundreds more signed with independent labels in the UK, France, Germany, and Sweden.

Napster - a classic case of the poor working man with a good idea being bought out by corporate America interests when they (the music industry) realized it jeopardized their interests. Reminds me of that guy in the 50s who developed an amazing car engine that got great gas mileage, etc, etc, but was sabotaged by corporate American car dealers...what was his name again, anyone?

OK... let me get this straight. Gnutllea is free, has high quality mp3s that I can burn, and napster is not free and I can't burn their music.

Well obviously I'm going to pay for napster. It's the best.

    Open Source

Napster Inc COULD of canned the central server and open sourced napster. But no... that is too new of an idea. Now Napster is going to die... good.

    MP3 Pro

MP3 Pro is proving just as popular as its predecessor - the MP3 digital audio format. Pro has only been available for just under two weeks, and the software has already been downloaded above 600,000 times.

    Napster? Already dead

There's no life at all in the corpse of Napster. I checked it out over the weekend - there's nobody and nothing there.

On the other hand, Gnutella is very much alive and kicking a**....and obviously growing. I'm loking forward to seeing just how the RIAA tries to take Gnutella down (unsuccessfully).

    Limewire rocks.

i think you are all wrong

the majority of people listen to pop---which means singles. If the price is right---and it certainly will come with an extraordinary ease of use, napster will find a place.

for us, of course, we won't be touching this with a ten-foot pole. OpenNap works very well, thank you very much.
