IDG World Expo has announced that it expects more than 60,000 Mac enthusiasts to attend next month's Macworld Conference and Expo at the Jacob K. Javitz Convention Center in New York City. Registration for the event has been steadily increasing since the first week of online registration, and show organizers expect the conference program to show a 25 percent increase in attendance over last summer's event. Overall attendee registration is up 14 percent.

    The big guns....

won't be there. Both Adobe and Macromedia aren't doing any more big conventions this year (Comdex included) due to financial difficulties. You might see reps on stage during the keynote with SJ, and you might find them getting their products strategically placed in other vendors booths, but neither will have a presence there.

    Kind of a bummer...

    Registrations were free

There were numerous ways to get free registrations to the show floor, so I'd suspect that had a lot to do with it. I personally know a lot of people who've been to previous shows who aren't going this summer, and it bums me.

I also know that with companies cutting back on sending people to events like this, it was easy for me (and others, I'm sure) to hedge my own bet by getting one of the free show floor passes before I knew I was being sent by my employer (to a higher conference pass). So I wonder how many double registrations there are ...

    Unregister me

I know things are tough, but I get my ticket to MacWorld (NYC) in the mail and now they want $15 from to walk past exhibitors trying to sell me stuff.

Well, things are tough for me too. I got laid off from my job at an eCommerce software company. Now every little hit hurts. I know that it is only $15, but it is the principal of the thing.

You used to be able to see the famous Steve Jobs keynote for free, then they made you pay for it.

I'll go to Seybold instead thank you.

    Free passes???

I keep hearing about these free passed to the exhibits. Where do I find these?? I could really use a couple for my wife and I. The hotel costs are pretty brutal and every cent counts!
