Pacific Image Electronics has introduced the PrimeFilm 1800 Silver, a $300 film scanner that converts mounted and un-mounted negative and positive 35mm filmstrips and slides into digital files with quality superior to photos scanned with traditional flatbed technology. The USB-based scanner, compatible with both Mac and Windows, features a 1800 dpi resolution and 36-bit scanning as well as a software bundle that includes SilverFast SE 5.0 and Photoshop LE 5.0.

    Is 1800dpi enough for negatives and slides? I'd think that more resolution would be very important at that form factor.
