Sony to launch ScreenBlast
updated 04:30 pm EDT, Wed June 20, 2001
Sony is planning the launch of a new broadband entertainment service it calls ScreenBlast, which will utilize elements of Apple's Final Cut Pro software to replicate a movie studio or music recording studio on the Web. The Web site will launch in the Fall, and offer a $170 suite of editing tools for use in conjunction with the service.

the article only mentions that it's aimed towards people who are used to using apps such as final cut pro. i highly doubt it'll actually "utilize elements" of final cut pro, unless you mean that it'll borrow some ideas from it.

Here's the quote:
"The service is aimed at 18- to 24-year-old ``early adopters'' of high-speed, or broadband, Internet access and people comfortable using video and audio editing tools such as Apple Computer's Final Cut."
Looks like someone read this too quickly, no?

Sony wishes they had FCP

The tools they ship on a Vaio suck pond water. They are inferior to iMovie, let alone FCP. I have a feeling that Sony and Apple are going to get closer as time goes on.

I have a feeling that Sony has no interest in getting closer to Apple as time goes on...
I have a feeling that Sony will copy Apple, as they already have begun shipping IEEE1394 enabled machines with DVD-R. They could be developing software that feels and works like FCP, but runs on everyone's favorite OS. *shudder*

The article only compares the Sony site to editing tools _like_ FCP.
Why is it that MacNN has degraded to a Press Release duplication bot? I highly doubt any intelligent humans work there, maybe an intern who monitors press releases and does the magical command-C-command-V editorial wizardry that appears to becoming standard.
Even Slashdot gets stuff right _some_ of the time. Yeesh.

Nah, slashdot is right pretty much the same percentage of the time you'd expect from a random number generator. MacNN hasn't quite gotten that bad yet, but they do seem to be trying.

I don't care how broadband someone's connection is. It's not enough to edit video over! Oh let me just preview my video and see if there's a little mistake or two. Gee, it's only a 32 gig download...
