    Ummmm...

Is this the first 4 megapixel camera from Olympus, or is the the first 4 megapixel camera from Olympus with a 3X/7.5X digital optical zoom?

My reason for asking is that this is not Olympus' first 4 megapixel camera - the E10 is.

Please Olympus and all you other digital camera companies: this is all computer technology and the new model should replace an old model at the same price. Apparently they think that the consumer is willing to pay more for incremental increases in ability with cameras and that they are somehow different than what consumers expect with computers.

    only 16MB SmartMedia!

I got an 8MB card with my 2.1 megapixel camera and it just DOES NOT cut it. I bought a 64MB card and that suffices. 16MB is a joke, even for a 2.1 mega pixel. Compact Flash goes to hundreds of megs, and for a 4.1 mega pixel camera, you can shoot hardly anything on one of those small 16 MB cards.

CAMEDIA C-4040 ZOOM, its first 4 Megapixel digital camera with a 3X/7.5X digital/optical zoom,

for clarity, it probably should be:
CAMEDIA C-4040 ZOOM, its first 4 Megapixel digital RANGEFINDER camera with a 3X/7.5X digital/optical zoom,

The E-10 is a 4 Megapixel Reflex(through the lens) camera.

    My E-10 came with 32MB...

...then I got a 64 MB SmartMedia too. Still not enough, I got a 6 GB Digital Wallet to hold me until I can get a new iBook. Then I'll be fully mobile.

    "first"

They mean it's their first "consumer" camera with that CCD resolution. Reflex cameras like the E10 are treated in a whole other class (and price range).

Regarding the included storage card, Olympus has always been even chintzier than the other companies. But they're all bad.

    re: Chintzy mfr's

I paid $500 for my 3.3MP Toshiba. They included a 16MB SmartMedia card, which I thought was pretty generous.

    It can hold about 55 max-quality 1024x768 images and 13 max-quality 2048x1536 images.
