Belkin today introduced the N30 GameMouse designed for "fast-action, shooter-type games that require a high level of control." It includes Immersion TouchSense technology that transforms digital information into physical sensations as well as a distinctive, black, molded, "spaceship-like" surface that improves grip and minimizes accidental button-pushes. It is due in August for $40.

    Is it mac compatible

I could not find any info on it being mac compatible. I do not need to read info on macnn about more PC products I can't use! Please, if something is not mac or effect the mac, do not report on it here...

    N30 GameMouse

Yeah, looks cook and all, but their web site says it is "Compatible with Windows 98, 2000, Millennium". MacNN is a "Mac" site, do you guys no something that Belkin is not saying?

    Oh boy!!!

I'm glad they dangled this one in front of us! This looks like a pretty solid and sweet mouse...TOO BAD IT'S NOT DESIGNED FOR THE MAC!

    Mac Compatible it is

It's a USB mouse and thus it will work on your Mac. To program the extra buttons, you just need to get USB Overdrive. And the right button and scroll wheel will work automatically in OS X.

The only thing that won't work is TouchSense. But who cares. Do you really want your mouse to vibrate just when you're lining up a shot.

    Re: Mac Compatible it is

If Touchsense doesn't work, why pay more for a mouse with it instead of getting one cheaper that doesn't have it?

    force feedback + mouse

I've used several force feedback mice on a PC, and they all have one thing in common -- they are HEAVY, several ounces more than an optical mouse. A dumb idea from the get-go. And no, having to purchase a third-party driver to get it to function at even a rudimentary level does NOT make the Belkin mouse Mac-compatible...

    Poor reporting

If it can be made to work on the Mac, MacNN should say so, and say how. MacNN should call Belkin and talk to someone. This is supposed to be a news site: give us the info.

    You're getting mad at

the wrong people. This is actually a good story. Why? Well Belkin will probably never write a Mac driver for this mouse because it uses force feedback. And as we all know, the Mac does not currently support force feedback. So why bother marketing this mouse to a company that doesn't even support it's main selling point.

Get pissed at Apple for not offering us basic gaming support that was introduced over five years ago on the original Playstation. Jobs says that Apple gets gaming, I think not.

    This is a bad story

I posted the original post and I stick by the fact that it is a bad story...Let me explain:

If the product is not Mac compatible when you pull it out of the box but can be "made" so, it should be reported as such and have a how to added to the report.

As for the "force feedback" Macally has one that "works": The iShock II. I agree that Apple should have this and other gaming tech added to the OS (at least X) but just because Apple doesn't do something doesn't mean that it can't be done.

I currently do not use USB Overdrive and don't think that just because it exits that we should say that something is Mac compatible without an asterix next to it. The reason: my smallest concern would be support. In this case, I cannot go to Belkin if something goes wrong that is not specifically hardware, they will ask what system I am using and say that it is not supported under Mac OS.

    Lame

Sure, it'll _work_ on a Mac... but that doesn't mean it was meant for the Mac. Why do Mac users persist in thinking that good products are jimmy rigged Wintel products? Demand a better mouse!

BTW- The best mouse I've ever used is XLR8's USB Point and Scroll Mouse... Very precise!
