Connexion by Boeing has teamed up with American Airlines, United Airlines, and Delta to offer in-flight Internet service in a total of 1,500 planes beginning in the second half of 2002, according to c|net. Offering speeds of 5 mbps for incoming and 1 mbps for outgoing (depending on the number of Internet users on each flight), the service will cost approximately $20 per hour.

    Not with my money

$10 a flight approaches my price point. Now if I become a consultant and spend someone else's money...

    $20/hour? I guess I should become a knoweverything consultant...

Anyway I do not care I'm only flying with Airbus!

    dude

20/hour seems VERY cheap for me considering how hard the airlines bend you over for everything else. those little computer terminal things in airports charge more than that.

    not cheap

This should even be a free service for some airlines. Charters are usually reasonable price wise, but when you spend 2-4 times more for flying with some of these goons, things like net access should just be a free incentive.

    VoIP?

Well, if you get your VoIP working, it might be a cheap end run around the $3.00 per minute for the phones.

Imagine being able to log in from your seat to the office and have all calls, faxes, e-mails routed to you while jetting from LA to NY. For many the $120 per flight would be extremely cheap productivity.

However, I suspect that the up and down speed advertized are extremely optimistic. Even 1 mbit only provide fifteen 64kbit channels per flight.

    huh?

Paying $8 for a drink in the airport bar is ok, but $20/hr for internet access during flight is bad? WTF? It'll get cheaper as time goes on. Hopefully.

    A little perspective

Being overcharged and being raped are two very different things, and the "bend me over" c*** is just homophobic.

    A little perspective

bend me over is not homophobic, the poster could very well be a women, I have a g** friends who use such expressions when someone is trying to overcharge them (or what not). I think people just assume that other people are jerks.

    Cost

Actually, I suspect that a lot of people will pony up the $20/hr. These are, of course, the same people who absolutely *have* to be in constant connection. We've all seen them... the ones who turn on their cell phones the minute more than two wheels are touching the runway.
