Has anyone read this book yet? Is it for beginners at all? I have several ORielly books, but all are geared more for advanced users.....

    Seems good

I still haven't read it (mind you, I received it today !), but after going through the first chapter and glanced through the rest of the book, I can say that it seems very well written and accessible to anyone who wishes to (finally) understand AppleScript's syntax... I guess it could have been in "the missing manual" series, but certainly not in the "for dummies" series.

    Future of Applescript

Apple's trying to make sure that AppleScript on OS X duplicates all the functionality it enjoyed under OS 9. I'm not sure that there are any new features underway.

    AppleScript on X

Apple has made it clear that AppleScript was one of the core technologies they intended to continue pushing forward back in the black days (you might remember that they had ditched a slew of promising technology back then to concentrate their manpower on a reduced set of live-saving projects). Now that every thing is much rosier for Apple (and that the work of porting AppleScript to Mac OS X is done), there would be no reason for Apple to shutdown the project...

I would tend to believe that AppleScript is here to stay... for as long as Apple will be there too ! ;-)
