Dr. Bott is now shippping its DVIator, which allows users with older DVI-based video cards to use newer ADC displays. The $150 device combines DVI video, USB and external power for connection to Apple's ADC 15", 17" and 22" flat panel displays.

    RE: PC Use?

Yes it does. This allows an Apple LCD display to be connected to any video card with a DVI connector--PC or Mac.

    nice, but old news

this sounds like a great device, but the drbott site has had this info for over a week now.

and, the article leaves off the best part…the device WILL (upon special request) allow you to attach ADC monitors to vga cards/ports (such as the TiG4)

    Re: nice, but old news

Are you sure about being able to connect to vga, in particular TiG4?

I read the Dr. Bott site and saw no mention of this. I'm considering buying a TiBook and was suprized to find only vga monitor ports, no support for external flat panels.

    No TiG4 or PC

Unless there is a VGA-to-DVI adaptor that I can't find, then NO it will NOT allow PCs or TiBooks to connect to an ADC flatpanel. It says over and over again that this is for DVI connectors, which are NOT VGA connectors, to connect to ADC monitors.

    Sorry, folks!

    my mistake...wrong produc

oops...i should have checked my sources. i have been researching the ADC-vga problem for a while now. just confused the two vendors.

Geffen is the manufacturer of the ADC-vga device. and they have had their product online for a while now.

    Gefen box

Is this that $300 converter? Damn, I wish it was cheaper. I need a CRT monitor to use with my ti (for color work LCD is totally unreliable) and I'd like nothing more than to use the last of the Apple CRTs.

Anyone find a cheaper VGA-ADC solution?

    not likely any cheaper

you wont likely see a cheaper adapter. due to the fact that ADC supplies power to the monitor, an adapter necessarily must incorporate a quality power supply (with proper shielding to eliminate interference). that unit alone will drive the cost per unit above what most consumers are used to paying for video adapters.

and, unless some unseen force creates a larger demand for such a device, i dont see mass production driving the cost down either. Apple's measly market share divided by the % of machines that cant use a DVI PCI card (read powerbooks)does not a profit make. JMHO

Uhmm... why not PCs? PCs are fine as long as they have a DVI video card.
