Fantom Drives has added FireWire-based DVD-RAM and DVD-ROM drives to its FireWire product line. The new 8x DVD-ROM drive, which costs $400, can read DVD-ROM and DVD-Video formats, as well as single-sided DVD-RAM discs and is compatible with Apple's hardware and software DVD-decoders, according to the company. Its DVD-RAM drive will cost $750 and will use Hitachi's GF-1000 DVD-RAM mechanism.
