Testers sought for Snapz Pro X

Ambrosia Software is looking for help in testing an early development version of Snapz Pro X, its screen capture utility for Mac OS X, according to Utterer.com. "Snapz Pro X isn't very functional right now -- you can only capture the entire screen, and only save it as a PICT file -- however it will still be quite helpful to us if a few people try it out."

    Never used Snapz Pro huh?

Snapz Pro is a must have for anyone who does many screen shots. You can control where they are saved, what type of file it is, and even the creator app so when you double click the file it opens in the app you want (Photoshop in my case). It can even capture movies! But most usefule, if the ability to capture an "a** you are doing it image" such as dragging a photoshop layer. Mac OS 9 waits until you let go of the mouse, but Snapz Pro interupts the drag and allows you to capture the drag as it is happening.

You can also change the keyboard shortcuts to whatever you want, in case you are trying to capture a certain cursor that won't appear if you have the command key down.

This app does things OS 9 screen capture can't do and saves me time. Normal users migh not need it, but I am so glad this awesome screenshot program is coming to OS X. I have been waiting.

    Oh my gosh!

I shouldn't type so fast... I just made a ton of typos, including one bad word by accident. Oops! Please forgive my poor typing!

    Oh... useful on OS9

    Useful on OS9, yes.

But all of the things mentioned in the second article are either already in Grab.app or are pointless in the new environment.

    Capturing Movies

Why would capturing movies under X be useless? And did anyone notice Grab only supports tiffs!

    Will be useful

Useful on OS9 and is already useful on OS X, only to be more so! Can Grab capture a minimizing window? Snapz can! Is it easy to capture a menu with Grab. Not as easy as it is Snapz! I am not bashing Grab, but just don't trash Snapz because you think that just because you have one app to capture a screen that that is all you need. This beta is in EARLY development, but will be gaining features, etc. It also allows you to use Cmd-Shift-3 to capture a screen like the old days. That itself is worth using, not to mention that it saves the PICT to your desktop, so you don't have to go to Grab, save the image and name it. Think Different people. More apps are great for OS X. We want developers to make them, not trash apps when they first come out, and especially not until the final version comes out.

    9 version is Supercool

Can't wait for it come to X. You can record movies of onscreen activities as an instructional tool. It can also pick up sounds.
