David S. notes that i-drive, a free online storage site, is discontinuing its service and instead is licensing the software to telecommunications carriers and Internet Service Providers (ISPs) so that they can provide fully integrated storage solutions into their other offerings. Users have until June 18th to remove their files from i-drive before they are deleted.

    Sad departure

This is the only product I know off that can handle files between mac and PC. It's sad if this is true.

I think the te news refers to xdrive not idrive. I hope that that is the case

Actually, the news refers to idrive, and in the news they ask users to switch to xdrive, which will start charging users something like $4.95 per months.

    oh well..

the only thing people store at places like that is warez & p*** & mp3s anyway. I'm not surprised to see it go away at all.... I have never seen anybody use it for legal purposes. EVER.

At least I've seen people put their cute homepage on mac.com.....

Actually, I have seen it used for lawful purposes: http://animeintro.cjb.net had all of its files put up on iDrive. Yes, it's legal.

Oh well. I'm not really that sad to see it go, the transfer rates that they had at iDrive were terrible! the @mac.com services are a lot better.

a programmer here uses it for storing projects. just like an extension of the network so he doesn't have to burn stuff on a cd (or other removable medium) to move stuff from home to work.

too bad, so sad. if you give stuff away, people won't pay.
hey i'm a poet and didn't know it!
