ZDNet's positive review of Final Cut Pro 2.0 talks about some of the much welcomed improvements to the digital video editing software: "[the] target market has grown well beyond the professional-consumer level to include video and film professionals at the highest levels." Meanwhile, Salon.com's review says that Final Cut Pro 2.0 "makes film editing affordable -- and threatens industry leader Avid."

    Avid?

Who's Avid? Just kidding, I know they're the money-losing parent company of healthy Digidesign (who never threatened to pull Mac support). Right? :-)

FCP beats down Avid? Oh, just like Media 100 was going to do? And, by the way, if you think you can match Avid Media Composer performance with $1000 FCP, then you shall be extremely disappointed.

I am not saying it does, but the Salon.com article was very interesting in this regard.

    FCP + Matrx RT=?

•if you think you can match Avid Media Composer performance with $1000 FCP, then you shall be extremely disappointed.•

Throw the Matrox RT card into the mix and you have quite a decent system for way less money that Avid's offerings.

Dinosaurs are on their way out - anyone remember New England Digital?

    Yes, Apple buy Digidesign!!!!

Yes, the high priced dinosaurs of broadcast quality non-linear are on the way out, being replaced by FCP systems.

And it shows. Watch any of the discovery/learning/history programs that are being put together on a shoestring budget with these things. Lip sync is getting so bad even my mother is complaining about it.

Before this "revolution" I can't remember seeing a dropped frame on tv. While still rare, it does happen now.

FCp is easily the best editor at this level, but to throw out a 150,000 avid suite to use it is sheer folly.
