    I'm gonna be sick.

Hey, let's take this valuable brand name we bought a couple years back, and slap it on something ELSE! Yeah, great idea. I remember the last time Netscape said they didn't want to be a browser. Microsoft was happy to oblige them. And I don't blame MS. This was Netscape's battle to lose. Sick. Just sick.

    Duh

This has been happening for quite some time. AOL has been slowly turning netscape into the poor-mans AOL with the use ot netscape.com and pre beta mozilla builds. I could personally care less about what AOL is doing. As far as I'm concerned Mozilla has been separated from the machine and in a year we will have good 'ol communicator (mozilla 1.0) back w/o the AOL garabge.

Of course AOL will continue to sling builds of Mozilla as "Netscape" with the addition of spam, ads, and plugins. But I doubt I will download those, and I doubt anyone with half a brain will install that software in an office or university.

Most linux distros already include very nice mozilla binarys (not based on the current buggy trunk), and many folks (red hat inc) plan to ditch netscape all together when Mozilla 1.0 is finalized and put up for download.

Unless AOL starts placing tons of netscape ads on the air waves, netscape will contiune to die. The netscape brand name could be saved if AOL would support the geeks and not the consumers. That is how netscape bloomed in the first place.

Well, whatever, lets keep working toward mozilla 1.

    The End

Having lost the war with Microsoft's Internet Explorer through a lack of interest on AOL's part it's bye bye Netscape then............ Shame was a good browser once.......... The best in fact!

    yeeeesh.

    Bride of of AOL?
    Son of AOL?
    AOL II?
    AOL - Purist Edition? ("APE?")

C'mon - we all knew it was a matter of time til they tweaked Netscape so that it would push people to AOL - either by crippling it or worse - turning it into a shill for their content.

The shame is that if they feature-lapped IE they COULD have a great piece of software.

    brimming with?

it took those clowns 30-some months to come up with netscape 6, now they are going to finally get it right and give us an "Internet media hub brimming with Time Warner artists and publications".
    oh yeah, right-o!
Army Of Losers drove Netscape into the ditch and it's finished, stick a fork in it.
Netscape is dipped in s*** -- forever -- a real shame.

    Negotiation Tactic?

Think this has anything to do with AOL negotiating with M$ about putting AOL on the Windows XP desktop?
