Several readers note that today's online edition of Doonesbury, a nationally syndicated comic, contains a Mac twist. In recent months, the comic has been decorated with Apple products, including the iMac, iBook, Cube, and Apple Studio Display.

    YES, ridicule

I catch h*** daily for using Macs. Many people do. Makes me homicidal at times.

    I object, your honor!

Let's not use the word "littered." Let's say..."decorated with Macs."

Also, please don't kill anyone. It'll give us Mac users a bad name.

    Doonesbury pro Mac

Doonesbury has been pro mac for a long time. Macs have appeared in the strip going back to the Classic Mac days when Mac Pluses and SEs and the like appeared.

The ridiciule that some people heap on mac users is a fact of life. As a long time Doonsebury fan I can categorically state that the humor of today's strip is drenched in irony

    Sad, but true

Yes, I've had people snicker at me while out using my powerbook. Last week at a cafe I was happily working away, and I could overhear two people at a nearby table discussing their Windows machines. Both of the machines were broken -- again -- and they were clearly enjoying talking tech. It seemed obvious to me that they would rather talk tech than actually have a working machine. Then they concluding their talk with "Well, it could be worse." and nodding smugly toward my Mac. Oh, yeah, right. Three people, three machines, two machines in the shop -- again -- and yet I am the one who doesn't have a clue. Grrrrr.

On the other hand, I've had just as many people come up to look at my Mac and see what I am doing; they seem to assume it's something cool and important. I wonder if anyone ever goes up to someone using a windows machine just to see what they are working on. I've never seen it happen.

    Do what I do ...

Keep an alias to Virtual PC on the desktop with some nasty title like "GarbageWare". Then when a WinLamer starts in on the Mac, start Lose98 or whatever while saying, "Yeah, I can run junk too if I have to". To rub it in mention how it boots faster than their real PC and then launch Word or some other big hairy app and see how nicely it runs.... blows them away every time.

I get it all the time

I get so much sh*t from people because I'm a Mac user. I don't sit there and take it. I fight back. On a college campus its hard to be one of the few Mac users. But this new iBook will make things very different in the fall.

    s*** computer

I used to think that I got lots of comments on my SPARCbook laptop (sun compatible), but I've got a lot more since I got my pismo, especially when I'm sitting in my front lawn surfing the internet, or sitting around during rehearsal watching Rocky Horror Picture Show.

(Yes, I used to have a portable that had a SPARC processor and ran Sun's Solaris. Funny how an os like OS X can bring people together. Unix and Mac, who'd have guessed?)
